Zondag 21 augustus / Sunday 21st August
Heerlijk, een rustdag vandaag. Het is mooi weer. Een aantal is met de bus een rondtoer aan het maken maar wij hebben de dag gebruikt om heerlijk te wandelen en Arthur Seat, de hoge voormalige vulkaan, te beklimmen. Het resultaat was een prachtig uitzicht over Edinburgh en omgeving. Morgen begint de derde week van de Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2011.
Wonderful, today it was a day of rest. Some went by coach to do a trip, however we decided to take a walk and to climb Arthurs Seat, the high former volcano. The result was a very nice view over Edinburgh and surrounding area. Tomorrow the third week of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2011.

Het is mooi weer vandaag, vanavond zijn er twee voorstellingen. Velen hebben de dag gebruikt om bij te komen van de afgelopen vermoeide dagen. Morgen hebben wij lekker vrij.
It's a beautiful day today. Tonight there are two shows. Many of us has used this day to recover from the past exhausting days. Tomorrow we have the day off.
Vrijdag 19 augustus / Friday 19th August
Vanavond hebben wij een bezoek aan de Scotsmans Lounge gebracht, waar we samen met Brian en de jongens van de RSDG stilstonden bij Andy Bokas.
Tonight we went to the Scotsman's Lounge where we had a couple of drinks with Brian and the guys of the RSDG. We had a special moment to remember Andy Bokas.

Naast de Massed Pipes & Drums zijn er natuurlijk ook andere bands die deelnemen aan deze taptoe :) zoals The Bands of HM Royal Marines, die een geweldige show neerzetten. Met name de drumsalute is zeer indrukwekkend!
Besides the Massed Pipes & Drums, of course other Military Bands participate as well in the 2011 REMT :). Amongst them are the Bands of The Royal Marines who show an excellent drumsalute.

Donderdag 18 augustus/ Thursday 18th August
Vandaag was de begrafenis van Andy Bokas. De Pipes & Drums van de Royal Scots Dragoon Guards werden speciaal met een Chinook helicopter teruggevlogen uit Noord Schotland om op tijd voor de Taptoe te zijn. Emotioneel was het voor hen een zeer moeilijke dag.
Today it was Andy Bokas' funeral. The Pipes & Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards were brought back in a Chinook helicopter from North Scotland, in order to be in time for the Tattoo. Emotionally it was a very hard day for them.
Vandaag alweer de derde avond van de TV opnames, Het belooft droog weer te worden.
Tonight already the third night of the TV recordings. It promises to be a dry evening.

Woensdag 17 augustus / Wednesday 17th August
De tweede avond voor de TV opnames. Muzikaal gezien ging het erg goed, waarschijnlijk worden deze opnames voor de TV gebruikt. Van te voren werden alle tunes goed doorgespeeld

Dinsdag 16 augustus / Tuesday 16th August
Vandaag de eerste dag van de TV opnames. Jammer genoeg verliep het eerste gedeelte in de regen. Morgen en overmorgen zijn er ook opnames. Tijdens de show liepen veel camera mensen van de BBC op het terrein. Bij het marcheren raakte George bijna een cameraman en later bij het counteren sloeg hij met zijn mace tegen de benen van één van de cameramensen. Het lastige is dat je ook dan gewoon door moet gaan met de show en je er niets van moet aantrekken. We zijn al weer ruim een week bezig met de optredens. Onderstaand nog wat foto's:

Today the first day of the TV recordings. Unfortunately the first part of the show was in the rain. Recordings will also be made tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
During the show a lot of people from the camera crew of the BBC were on the esplanade. While marching George almost touched a cameraman and later on, when countering, he hit a cameramen with the mace against his legs. The tricky part is that you have continue, no matter what. We are already performing for over a week now. Below a couple of pictures:

Maandag 15 augustus / Monday 15th August
We gaan de tweede week in. Gisteren een receptie bij Steve Walsh gehad, erg gezellig, daarna naar de Scotsmans Lounge.
Vanmiddag oefenen op Redford Barracks, daar wordt o.a. besloten wie deze week tijdens de TV opnames gaat lopen.
Wie er geen genoeg van kan krijgen nog een twee korte filmpjes van de Massed Pipes & Drums en de finale (let bij finale ook eens op het kasteel, prachtig!!)

The second week. Yesterday we had a reception at Steve Walsh's house. It was a really nice reception, Fiona and Steve many thanks! Afterwards we went to the Scotsmans Lounge.
Today we will have rehearsals at Redford barracks in order to see who is going to perform during the TV recordings.
